Daytrip "Camel Market"

Camel Market
Shalatin, a city 280 km south of Marsa Alam, is the most important market places in southern Egypt and the biggest camel market of the country. The real Africa starts here. Many years the area between Marsa Alam and the Sudanese border was closed. Now it is open for tourism. You have the unique chance to be one of the first visitors.

Young Bedouins at the Camel Market
The tour starts at 7 o'clock in the morning. From Marsa Alam it is about a 3 hours drive along the coast.
Meet the different tribes, Rashaidas with their purple Galabiyas, Besheira and Ababda from Sudan. Visit the local market where camels, handicrafts, herbs and other goods from Sudan are sold. After lunch in a local restaurant you have the chance to taste original Bedouin coffee in a local coffee shop or at a bedouin family.
